Established in 2007, Festival of the Arts BOCA was designed to promote the cultural arts and to enrich the quality of life of the residents of Boca Raton, North Broward and Palm Beach County.
Harold López-Nussa was born into a musical family in Havana, Cuba. At eight-years-old, López-Nussa began studying at the Manuel Saumell Elementary School of Music. He continued his training at the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory and graduated with a degree in classical piano from the Instituto Superior de Artes (ISA) in Havana.
López-Nussa now moves with ease between the classical, pop, and jazz worlds. While he has recorded classical concertos, he has also won the top awards at international jazz competitions, such as the Jazz Solo Piano Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
López-Nussa is the first Cuba-based musician to release an album internationally since the lifting of many of the restrictions associated with longstanding trade embargoes. This album, El viaje, features the Harold López-Nussa Trio, which includes Harold’s brother, Ruy Adrián, and guests such as López-Nussa’s father, Ruy Francisco. López-Nussa was also a part of the Cuba volume of Rhythms del Munro, which paired him with veterans of the Buena Vista Social Club, and he spent three years in the touring band of singer Omara Portuondo. He has distilled these experiences not only into a rich, personal musical style, but also into an engaging attitude about making and sharing music.
